Frequently Asked Questions
General
Is Ledgr free? Yes. Ledgr is free to download and use. The free version displays a small banner ad at the bottom of the Home screen. Upgrading to Ledgr Premium ($0.99/month) removes all ads.
Does Ledgr require an internet connection? No. All features — including receipt scanning, budgeting, and insights — work completely offline. An internet connection is only used to load banner ads in the free version.
Is my financial data safe? Yes. All data is stored locally on your device and never sent to any server. Exported backups are encrypted with AES-GCM. See Privacy & Data for full details.
Does Ledgr require an account or sign-in? No. There are no accounts, passwords, or logins. The app opens straight to your Home screen. Your data lives entirely on your device.
Does Ledgr support multiple currencies? The currency display can be set in Settings (defaults to USD). All amounts are stored as entered — Ledgr does not perform currency conversion.
Security
How do I enable Face ID / Touch ID? Go to Settings → Security and toggle on Face ID (or Touch ID). Once enabled, the app will prompt for biometric authentication each time it opens.
What happens if Face ID / Touch ID fails? You can retry the biometric prompt. If authentication repeatedly fails, you can disable the app lock in Settings → Security.
Is Face ID / Touch ID required? No. App lock is entirely optional. If you prefer, you can use Ledgr without any lock — just leave the toggle off in Settings → Security.
Transactions
How do I edit a transaction? Swipe the transaction row to the left and tap the blue Edit button. Or tap the row directly to open it.
Can I bulk delete transactions? Not currently. Transactions must be deleted individually by swiping right.
What happens when I delete a recurring transaction? You will be asked whether to delete just that occurrence, all future occurrences, or all occurrences (past and future).
Why does "Twice Monthly" show entries on the 15th and last day, not every two weeks? Twice Monthly is designed for billing cycles (like credit cards) that use calendar dates. For every-two-weeks scheduling, use Biweekly instead.
Receipt Scanning
What types of receipts work best? Flat, well-lit receipts with clear text. Crumpled, blurry, or low-contrast receipts may have lower accuracy.
Does receipt scanning require internet? No. Ledgr uses Apple's on-device Vision framework. No images are uploaded.
The scanned amount or vendor is wrong. Can I fix it? Yes. After scanning, Ledgr shows a review screen where you can edit any extracted field before saving.
Premium & Ads
How do I upgrade to Premium? Go to Settings → Subscription → Upgrade to Premium and follow the prompts.
How do I cancel my subscription? Tap Settings → Subscription → Manage Subscription to open Apple's subscription management page. Alternatively, go to your device's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
I already subscribed but ads are still showing. What do I do? Go to Settings → Subscription → Restore Purchases. This syncs your subscription status with the App Store.
Data & Backup
How do I back up my data? Go to Settings → Data → Data Management → Export Data. Save the exported file somewhere safe (Files, iCloud Drive, email, etc.).
How do I restore a backup? Go to Settings → Data → Data Management → Import Data and select your previously exported file.
I deleted all my data by accident. Can I recover it? Only if you have a previously exported backup. The Delete All Data action is permanent and cannot be undone.
Troubleshooting
The app is unresponsive after a system permission prompt. Force-close the app (swipe up from the app switcher) and reopen it. This is a rare iOS issue that a relaunch resolves.
Ads are not showing. In development or before the app's App Store approval, test ads are displayed. Real ads appear once the app is live.
I found a bug. How do I report it? Go to Settings → About → Report Issues, describe what happened, and tap Send. Your device info is automatically attached to help diagnose the issue.
