How to Use Ledgr
Home Tab
The Home tab is your daily dashboard. It shows your financial picture for the selected month.
Month Navigation
Use the ‹ and › arrows at the top to browse previous or future months.
Budget Overview
The circular chart in the centre shows:
- Spent — total expenses for the month (red)
- Earned — total income for the month (green)
- Category breakdown — coloured segments around the ring
Below the chart, two cards give you a quick summary of total spent and total earned.
Adding a Transaction
Tap the floating + button in the bottom-right corner of the Home tab. The Add Transaction form opens with the amount field already focused, so you can start typing right away.
To capture a receipt instead of typing, tap the scan icon (a camera with a +) at the right end of the amount field — see Scanning a Receipt.

Scanning a Receipt
- Tap the floating + button, then tap the scan icon (a camera with a +) at the right end of the amount field
- Point your camera at the receipt and tap the shutter button — or tap the photo library icon to import an image
- Ledgr reads the receipt automatically using on-device OCR
- Review the extracted details (vendor, amount, date, category) and correct anything if needed
- Tap Save
Receipt scanning works entirely on-device. No image is ever uploaded.
If you enable Split on a scanned receipt, it defaults to Split by Average. The line items are still identified in the background, so you can switch to By Items at any time without waiting.
Managing Transactions
Editing
Swipe a transaction left and tap the blue Edit button, or tap the row directly.
Deleting
Swipe a transaction right to delete.
For recurring transactions, you will be asked:
- Delete this occurrence only — removes just this entry
- Delete this & future occurrences — stops the recurring series from this date forward
- Delete all occurrences — removes every past and future entry in this series
Searching
Tap the magnifying glass icon next to the Transactions header to reveal the search bar. Search matches vendor name, description, or category.
Filtering
Use the filter chips below the header to narrow the list:
| Filter | Shows |
|---|---|
| All | Every transaction |
| Expenses | Outgoing money only |
| Income | Incoming money only |
| Recurring | Recurring items only |
| Split | Expenses with an active split bill |
Splitting a Bill
When adding or editing an expense, toggle Split to divide the cost with others. Ledgr offers two modes:
- Average — split the total across groups by headcount. This is the default and the simplest way to split a shared bill.
- By Items — assign individual receipt items to specific people. Best after a receipt scan.
When you save, the expense amount is set to your share only, so your budget totals stay accurate.
Split by Average (groups)
- Toggle Split on and choose Average — the total auto-fills from your entered amount
- Confirm the Total Bill (the full amount before splitting)
- You always appear as the first group, Me. Add others with Add Group — name each group and set how many people it covers using the − N people + control
- Each group's share is calculated per person automatically
Example: a $60 bill across Me (1 person) + Family (2) + Bob (3) = 6 people → $10 per person → Me $10, Family $20, Bob $30.
Overriding a group's amount: tap a group's amount and type a fixed value. That group is pinned and the remaining groups rebalance automatically by headcount. Tap the reset arrow next to the amount to return it to its automatic per-person share.
Me is always shown as its own group — it is never hidden — so it's always clear how much of the bill is yours.
Adding groups quickly: the Add Group sheet lets you add several groups in one pass. The name field is focused automatically — type a name and press Return to add it and keep going; press Return on an empty field (or tap Save) to finish. You can also pick from your saved contacts.
Split by Items (Receipt Scan)
When you scan a receipt, Ledgr extracts the individual line items. Choose By Items to assign each item to a specific person instead of splitting the total blindly.
Steps:
- Scan a receipt, then toggle Split on and choose By Items (items and prices appear in the Items section)
- Each item row shows a Who field — assign it by typing a name or tapping a quick-pick chip
- Tap Aggregate — Ledgr calculates each person's subtotal, tax share, and tip share automatically
- The split bill form is pre-filled with the results
Assignment keywords (case-insensitive):
| Who field | Effect |
|---|---|
Me |
Your item — counted in your own share (default) |
All |
Shared equally by everyone in the party |
Yolanda,Alice |
Shared equally by these two people only |
Yolanda |
Assigned solely to Yolanda |
Qty column:
Each item shows its quantity. Tap the number to clear it and type a new value — if you leave it empty, it resets to 1. Changing the quantity recalculates the unit price automatically.
When split mode is first enabled, items with quantity > 1 are expanded into individual rows so you can assign each unit to a different person.
Colour coding in the Who field:
| Colour | Assignment |
|---|---|
| Grey | Me |
| Blue | Single named person |
| Orange | All |
| Purple | Comma-separated subset |
Split Summary:
After tapping Aggregate, a per-person summary appears inline:
- Each row shows the person's total, plus an Items / Tax / Tip breakdown
- Tap any row to expand it and see the individual items that make up their share, including a note for any shared items (e.g. shared with Larrisa, Alison)
- Tap Re-aggregate at any time after adjusting assignments
Tracking Reimbursements
View all split bills by tapping the Split Bills icon in the Home toolbar.
- Tap the circle next to a participant to mark them as paid
- Tap Request to send a payment request via Venmo, Apple Cash, PayPal, Cash App, or copy a message
- Bills move to Settled once everyone has paid
Requesting Money
When you tap Request next to an unpaid participant:
| Method | What happens |
|---|---|
| Apple Cash | Opens Messages with a pre-filled note — select the recipient and tap + → Apple Cash |
| Venmo | Opens Venmo with amount and note pre-filled; recipient auto-filled if saved in contacts |
| PayPal | Opens PayPal app |
| Cash App | Opens Cash App |
| Copy Message | Copies a ready-to-send message to your clipboard |

Q — Feedback & Support
Experimental — Q is an early-access feature. Behaviour may change in future versions.
The Q tab (chat-bubbles icon, third tab in the tab bar) is an AI assistant you can chat with to report bugs, request features, or ask questions about Ledgr.
Sending Feedback
- Tap the Q tab — Q greets you and invites you to describe anything on your mind
- Type your message in the input field at the bottom — no need to pick a category; just describe your bug, idea, or question in your own words
- Optionally attach a screenshot with the paperclip icon
- Tap ↑ to send
Q is conversational — it understands what kind of feedback you're sending, will ask follow-up questions if it needs more detail, and keeps context across the thread.
Q requires an active internet connection. Your Ledgr version and iOS version are automatically included in the first message so the team has context without you needing to type it.
Tips
- Just talk naturally — Q figures out whether it's a bug, a feature request, or a question
- Attach a screenshot to show a problem instead of describing it
- If you see a network error, check your connection and tap ↑ again — your typed text is preserved
- Tap the keyboard icon in the toolbar to show or hide the keyboard
